Monitor Local Newspapers for Articles, Editorials & Letters Impacting the LGBT Community
Often, local editorial pages are filled with misinformation and outright lies about the LGBT community. By forming a monitoring group, you can read these letters each day, form responses and submit letters of rebuttal, educating the public about the LGBT community.
It is important to watch for anti-gay bias in articles published throughout the newspaper, and to write letters or call the paper’s editors and ask for an explanation regarding this bias and corrective action.

Other methods such as organize a group of concerned citizens to meet with the editorial board to educate them regarding anti-gay bias and advocating for positive articles regarding our community is effective.

It is important to note that the LGBT community is NOT advocating for "special rights," as many have stated, but rather we are advocating for equal access to housing, employment, marriage and its many benefits, child custody, funeral leave, an end to harassment in the military, and other rights that all Americans simply take for granted.
